Business Problem: End-of-life tape libraries in the shared backup environment necessitated consolidation and modernization to maintain reliability and cost efficiency.

Project Scope: Analyzing the existing backup environment to identify inefficiencies and solution a modernization strategy to improve performance, transparency, and cost optimization.

  • Making a key architectural decision to invest in new FlashSystem 5000 ($200k CAPEX) solutions, optimizing backup and restore speeds while improving RTO/RPO.

  • Separating IBM i® and Open Systems (OpenSys) backups to improve Cost Pools transparency and streamline reporting.

My Deliverables: Delivered a robust, modernized shared backup environment with improved cost transparency, enhanced data resilience, and reduced operational costs, setting a new benchmark for backup efficiency and scalability.
