SUSE Enterprise Linux upgrade 2014

My Project Role:

Subject Matter Expert

Business Problem: Outdated SUSE Linux Enterprise Servers (SLES) imposing security risks

Project Scope: Migrating to newest SUSE Enterprise Linux release leveraging P2V method.

  • Utilizing the P2V (Physical-to-Virtual) migration method to transition SUSE Linux Enterprise Servers from physical hardware to virtual environments.
  • Breaking down Logical Volume Management (LVM) structures for root disks, upgrading one of the mirrored disk "legs," and re-establishing RAID mirroring.
  • Configuring and managing mdadm RAID arrays for redundancy and performance.
  • Performing low-level Linux system administration tasks during critical phases of the boot and init process, including diagnosing bootloader issues and configuring SELinux.

My Deliverables: Successfully upgraded SLES from version 9 to version 11, ensuring a stable and functional environment with improved compatibility, while simultaneously virtualizing systems to achieve cost reduction and resource consolidation.
